Skiing . . . already?
That's right. As questions began to propagate throughout the offices of Beer Drinker's Guide to Colorado regarding the “run-up” to opening day at the various ski resorts, some were shocked to hear that Arapahoe Basin, the high altitude stronghold for blissfully long ski seasons, started hauling people up the mountainside on October 10th. The unusually early migration into the ski season represesents the earliest opening for Arapahoe Basin in it's 61 year history, and designates the ski resort as the first to open not just in Colorado, but in the entire nation. Currently, only the Exhibition lift is in operation, and only three runs leverage their offerings to anxious skiers and snowboarders. If you're leary about navigating into the mountains for just three runs, don't put those skiing daydreams on the backburner just yet. As of the writing of this article, Arapahoe Basin announced 3 inches of new snow, with more on the way!
Other Colorado resorts are priming their slopes for the forthcoming onslaught. Below is a partial listing of opening dates, so that you might have adequate time to switch out those bike racks, and wax the arrid surfaces of whatever device brings you joy while streaming through the dry Colorado powder. We've also included the closest brewery's to the respective ski areas, just in case you have a craving for cold craft beer after a long day of abusing your body in a steep mogul field. Enjoy! |
